INVITATION

It is our pleasure to announce the 17th Japan Sea Turtle Symposium. The symposium will be held at the Kumano-City Community Hall (Kumano-City, Mie prefecture, JAPAN) and the Kiho-Town Community Hall (Kiho-Town, adjacent to Kumanio-City) from November 18th through 20th, 2006.This annual symposium hosted by the Sea Turtle Association of Japan has been aimed to provide those local researchers as well as ones from academic institutions with opportunities to present their research and conservation activities of sea turtles, and overview of the current state of sea turtles in Japan. It will be the first time for the symposium to be held in Mie prefecture. The meeting site is famous for ‘’Kumano-Kodo’’, which is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range" (http://www.kumadoco.net/kodo_eng/).

This years symposium will be supervised by the Kumano-Shichiri-Mihama Symposium Executive Committee, and have the backing of following governmental bodies: Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Land Infrastructure and Transport, Fisheries agency of Japan, Mie prefecture, Kumano city, Kiho town, Mihama town, Board of education of Mie prefecture, Board of education of Kumano city, Board of education of Kiho town and Board of education of Mihama town. The symposium will be supported by the following companies as well: KANETETSU DELICA FOODS CO. LTD., TOYO TIRE & RUBBER CO. LTD., STELLA CHEMIFA CO. LTD., KANSAI ELECTRIC POWER CO. INC.

HOTEL RESERVATION

Single or Twin Room will be \7,500 per night per person. The price includes breakfast buffet. The symposium secretariat will book the hotel for participants all together. The secretariat will help overseas participants to arrange their travel to/from the symposium site and reserve hotel.


TRANSPORTATION

 KANSAI International Airport (KIX:http://www.kansai-airport.or.jp/ ) close to OSAKA or Chubu (Centrair) International Airport (NGO: http://www.centrair.jp/ ) close to NAGOYA is convenient for overseas participants. It takes about 5 hours and 7,000 yen to access the meeting site from KIX or NGO by trains.A chartered bus is available for participants from OSAKA. It will depart from Shin-Osaka Station at 9:00 AM on 18th November and arrived at the meeting site at 1:30 PM. It costs 5,000 yen. Highway bus is available for those who come from NAGOYA. More specific instructions and approximate costs for local transportation and alternative routes will be given on request. FEES

Overseas participants can pay total amount of the fees at the registration counter.

Participation: 5000 yen (1000 yen for students)

Banquet : 5000 yen (Nov. 19)

Boxed lunch with drink: 1000 yen (Nov. 19 and/or 20)

Group photo: 1200 yen

Chartered Bus from Shin-Osaka to meeting site: 5000 yen (Nov. 18)

All those who will attend the Symposium must register by October 1st. The following information should be send by email to info@umigame.org:First name, Middle name, Last name, Gender, Affiliation, Postal address, Email address, Phone, FAX, and request items (Chartered Bus service from Osaka, Box lunches, Banquet, Group photo, Hotel room).

PAPER and POSTER

 Any paper or poster presentations are welcome. Abstract (200- 400 words) must be submitted to info@umigmae.org by October 1st.  Title, author/s, affiliation/s, and address are also required. Each speaker will be given 15 minutes, which includes a question-and-answer period. Bulletin boards will be allocated for those who wish to display their posters.
